This gaming laptop is $9,000 -- and worth it

 

The ultimate gaming laptop is priced beyond the means of mere mortals -- but you'll want it anyway.

The 21-inch curved display feels very immersive in games. There are a ton of fun features and extras, including a reversible touch/number pad, eye tracking cameras and swappable WASD keys. The mechanical keyboard is excellent for gaming.

Even these high-end components don't fully justify the price. The display has a lower resolution than we'd like, battery life is poor and moving the touchpad away from its traditional spot is never a good idea.

The limited edition Acer Predator 21 X is equal parts Insanely powerful and crazy cool -- you just need a lottery win or random inheritance to afford it.

A scintillating performer that's also a strong value proposition, the compact Acer Predator G1-710-70001 is the gaming desktop to beat if you want to spend less than $2,500.

Excellent hardware selection. Intriguing case design. Good gaming keyboard and mouse included.

Requires use of enormous external power adapter. Difficult to upgrade.

Conclusion Last year, the Maingear Vybe bowled us over with an outstanding selection of gaming-aimed components for an unbelievable sub-$2,000 price. The Acer Predator G1-710-70001 can't quite make it below that price mark, but offers plenty of value...

Acer Predator G1 review: A VR-ready mini monster in a suitcase

 

This smaller VR-ready gaming desktop has its own roll-along suitcase and a reasonable price to boot.

The Acer Predator G1 is a speedy, reasonably priced gaming desktop with a fun sense of design and an optional custom briefcase for on-the-go gaming.

Performance is slower than other similarly equipped gaming desktops; limited ports; requires two bulky external power bricks, and you've got to really like the sci-fi tank tread design.

The Acer Predator G1 isn't the fastest or even smallest VR-ready desktop, but it's powerful enough for new games and VR headsets, and has a sense of fun missing from other gaming PCs.
