The IRISPen Executive is an expensive, niche tool, but if you need a handheld scanner then it's the most versatile option on the market.

Besides glaring accuracy problems, the IrisPen Executive's troublesome software and out-of-date manual are tall barriers to overcome. This product needs an overhaul before it can work well for most users.

Scans many different fonts ; recognizes hand-printed numerals ; helpful text-to-speech integration

Unreliable software ; manual is out of date ; scan accuracy varies ; text must be small enough to fit within small scanning area ; difficult to align the sensor with text ; must be connected directly to Mac's USB port, not a USB hub

Not a fan

 

Easy to install, however that's about it

No matter how careful I was to scroll over the text I wanted, I couldn't get this to scan properly. A good keyboard would be a better investment
