This is the closest you'll get to an iPod killer. Its features are well implemented and designed and the end result is a fantastic MP3 player that perhaps just falls short due to the moody controls. A definite winner in our books.

Small, thin and lightweight, User Interface, Drop and Drag music transfer, Battery life

Touchpad has some issues, Screen could be clearer, Lacks some other features (Radio, Recording etc.)

The Z5 offers long battery life and good photo-viewing capabilities. It may be the first PlaysForSure-compatible 4GB flash player, but it's still no iPod nano-killer.

The Samsung YP-Z5's touch pad, due to its varying degrees of sensitivity, can be difficult to deal with, especially when scrolling through menus. The Z5 also lacks some extra features, such as an FM tuner, audio recording, PIM functions, and on-the-go...

If you're looking for a tiny, well-built, color-screen MP3 player with excellent sound, the Samsung YP-Z5 is a great choice. Just make sure that you're comfortable with the touch-pad controller before you buy.

The YP-Z5 sounds clean and punchy. The touchpad needs an overhaul, but it's one of the first genuinely exciting MP3 players this year.

Best music transfer system of any MP3 player ; Crisp, clean sound ; Bright screen

Fiddly touchpad control ; Non-standard USB connector

If you're tired of MP3 players that force you to use proprietary software, the YP-Z5 is one of the best options out there. For those who are unsure, we'd recommend trying the YP-Z5's interface before you buy -- the shadow of the Click Wheel looms large.
