Supporting FM radio, voice recording, image viewing and open file transfer capabilities, the Samsung is packed with features. It's not as light nor as stylish as the Sony Walkman or Apple iPod, however.

Samsung's color-screened YH-925GS

 

The YH-925GS is basically the YH-920 with a color screen and no FM tuner.

Beautiful, photo-friendly color screen; excellent interface; supports DRM-protected WMAs and subscription-download services; line-in and voice recording; plays Audible content; inexpensive when purchased online.

No FM radio; no cradle option; slow to boot; mediocre sound quality, especially from certain equalizer settings; below-average battery life; annoying proprietary cable/charger; limited slide-show capabilities; doesn't display album art.

Despite the addition of a color screen, Samsung's latest iPod killer is actually a step back from its grayscale predecessor.

The Samsung YH-925 is a promising player marred by serious sonic flaws.

Useful feature set includes photo display, USB host, voice and line-in recording.

Heavy distortion introduced by all EQ settings. Inconvenient, proprietary cable. Requires software driver on PC.

Samsung Yepp YH-925

 

There's currently a big demand for gadgets that can display photos as well as offering music on the move, so the Yepp YH-925 from Samsung, one of only a handful of truly capacious portable players around, ought to do alright - even if it lacks some of...

The YH-925 isn't as polished as other hard-drive-based players but it's not badly priced. It's unlikely that thieves with a penchant for digital audio players will be targeting the YH-925 if there's anyone around with a recent iPod.

The Yepp YH-925GS contains a 20GB hard drive and sports a nice bright 1.8 inch, 260K colour LCD screen with a resolution of 160x128 pixels.

While it might seem that we are being overly negative here, the reason is that we really wanted to like the Yepp YH-925GS. It's small for a HD-based player, it has good battery life, a fast connection, great sound and volume, nifty photo viewing...
