Expert Review

The iM5 is a decent unit and its extra outputs are a nice touch. But the lack of an included remote and better sounding units for similar or lower prices means it wouldn't hurt looking elsewhere.

Portable and Compact, Loud Volume Levels, Inputs Include Sub Out and Composite, Syncs and Charges iPod when docked

Lacks a little bass and low end, Can’t control volume on the iPod itself, Volume buttons require a firm press, No Remote Control included, Power doesn’t switch off iPod

Altec Lansing inMotion iM510 review

Stand back, iPod! There's a third-party portable speaker system that's not made for the iPod. Altec Lansing's Made for Sansa inMotion iM510 speaker set is designed for the SanDisk Sansa e200 and c200 series of MP3 players. Altec Lansing has been paying...

The Altec Lansing inMotion iM510 is the first portable speaker set designed for the Sansa e200 and c200 series; has excellent sound quality for the size; operates on batteries (with good battery life); compact design; USB pass-through for syncing;...

The iM510's volume buttons don't offer enough feedback; dock pops out too easily; no constant line-level audio from player to speaker; annoying spacer adapter; no remote control; inappropriate for viewing video; volume jumps to high default level when...

The Altec Lansing inMotion iM510s offer sweet sound in a portable package for Sansa users.

Altec Lansing inMotion IM5

The Altec Lansing InMotion IM5 gives you a totable, shock-resistant speaker package and nice extras, but iffy bass.

Compact and sturdy. Good input/output options. Nice-looking travel bag. Easy to use.

Bass distorts easily. No remote control.

Review: Altec Lansing im510 inMotion Mobile Speaker System

The Altec Lansing inMotion im510 Portable Audio System (a.k.a. speaker system) is one of the first made-for-Sansa speaker docks. It is compatible with both the c200 and e200 series Sansa players, and I reviewed it with SanDisk's e280 8 GB

Altec Lansing IM5 Review

As summer approaches the UK (no sign yet) all our thoughts turn to laying on the beech listening to MP3 tracks, What better then, than a new portable iPod speaker system to blast out tracks while you take in some waves?

Altec Lansing inMotion iM5 Portable Speakers

A portable speaker system with acceptable audio quality for typical users, a pop-out dock for iPod syncing and charging, international power adapters, a nice carrying case, and audio input to let it work with all iPods. Nice industrial design and very...

Lacks rechargeable battery pack found in comparably priced modern competitors, no remote control (or ability to use one for iPod 5G and nano). As with its similarly priced predecessors, overall sound balance is not great for the price unless you...

Review: inMotion iM5 Portable Audio System

Solid portable speaker system with all the trimmings

Shock resistant. Great case. Includes International plugs and 3.5 mm stereo cable

Doesn't produce deep bass well. Volume extends beyond what speakers can handle. Unit should be placed within 3 feet of your ears

If you’re one of the lucky many who received an iPod for the holidays, than it is now time to load up on accessories. While it’s easy to choose form the myriad of cases available, it is not so easy to choose a sound system. A iPod docking speaker sys

Review: Altec Lansing iM5

For anyone that's been following the iPod speaker segment, Altec Lansing's inMotion line has become synonymous with portable speakers. Shortly after the introduction of the rather large iM7 “boombox”, the iM5 was released. Despite having a higher...

Easy set up, small, surprisingly good sound from small speakers, doubles as an iPod dock, carry bag included, AUX input, RCA video output, subwoofer output

Sound quality not as good as similarly-priced products, no remote, volume very high at power-on, almost all cases incompatible, no headphone jack, no bass/treble adjustments

In conclusion, the iM5s are a good speaker system, but some of the alternatives, even Altec Lansing’s other products might be a better choice if you're not picky about features. For the extra ’0-’0, the iM3s or On Stage II have better sound and add a...
