After refreshing its entry-level ONE GPS unit (now called the ONE 140 IQ Routes Edition), TomTom has also upgraded its widescreen model: the TomTom XL...
Slim, excellent UI, lane guidance, EasyPort mount, preloaded safety alerts
No AC adapter included, TMC antenna optional, a little expensive
TomTom's XL 340 is a little pricey when compared to competing GPS units with similar features, but what you get is a great user experience. An excellent interface, lane guidance, IQ Routes technology and a slim design make this another great TomTom GPS.

The sensibly priced TomTom XL 340-S LIVE is a solid navigator and a good example of what's possible with connected GPS devices, but there's room for improvement.
Real-time traffic. Integrates Web-based services. No ads. Accurate routing. Timely, informative voice prompts. Map view displays plenty of trip info.
Expensive monthly fees. Automatic rerouting needs a rethink.

Connected GPS provides Google Local Search ; POI database has 7 million entries ; Live traffic, weather, and fuel price updates ; IQ Routes technology works well
Connected services cost $10 per month ; Lacks Bluetooth support
Company's latest connected GPS device carries a fairly low price, but the connected services remain a mixed bag.

The TomTom XL 340 S builds on TomTom's successful XL series of wide-screen portable navigation devices. The XL 340 S' features, such as advanced lane guidance, daily fuel prices, IQ Routes, and TomTom Map Share, work together to constantly update its...
The TomTom XL 340 S has advanced features such as lane guidance, downloadable fuel prices, and user updated maps from TomTom Map Share. Its large 4.3-inch WXGA touch screen is easy to read and to enter addresses on. Text-to-speech enhances the device's...
The larger size, combined with additional thickness added by an EasyPort mount, somewhat limits its portability. Routing from a moving vehicle is considerably slower than from a stationary one.
The TomTom XL 340 S introduces a few advanced features to TomTom's midrange lineup, while staying well below the premium price bracket.

If you're going on a journey, try not to do it with Evangeline Lilly or Matthew Fox: They're known for getting stranded in random, unknown...
Just like Evangeline Lilly, the 4.3-inch screen is easy on the eyes. Comes with top-to-bottom maps of North America, including more than 7 million points of interest — way more than you’ll ever visit. Desktop software built right into the firmware....
No text-to-speech with celebrity voices. Suction-cup mount a bit tricky in cars with deep dashes. Live-traffic features optional and extra. No Bluetooth, so forget about pairing your phone

Bedecked in black and furnished with IQ Routes, a new faster, snazzier interface and lane guidance, the XL 340 is identical to the One 140 except, you guessed it, it has a wider 4.3-inch screen.
