great camera when it works

i have a major problem with this camera.if you turn it on with lens cap on it instructs you to turn off camera. take off lens cap, turn it on ; i did all that and camera never worked again

the zoom is wonderful.still trying to get the hang of it ; Got the camera for my wife to take to germany. got a month to figure it out
