Samsung Q1 SSD - Solid State UMPC

Samsung was quick out of the gates with its UMPC, but now you can get the Q1 with a solid state disk.

The solid state disk is also much lighter than a standard mechanical drive, so the overall weight of the Q1 SSD is 734g compared to 779g for the standard Q1. Does 45g make a big difference on a device like this? I guess that depends on how light you...

Samsung Q1EX UMPC reviewed, dismissed

Rats. Just when we thought that someone had figured out how to make a winning UMPC configuration for consumers, out comes a review to pan it. While the Samsung...

Samsung Q1-SSD reviewed

We've just come across a complete review of Samsung's Q1-SSD UMPC, the first device in its class with a solid state NAND flash drive. Sammy's had some ups and downs with its Q1 devices over the last few months, giving us all the more reason to wonder...

Samsung Q1 review

Does the UMPC have a future?

Good build and battery life

Sluggish operation

It's a good-looking machine, but what would you actually use it for?

Samsung Q1 SSD review

The flashy little ultra mobile PC

Flash drive makes it much quicker to use ; Packed with handy features ; Excellent screen, with solid touch abilities

Battery life isn't much of an improvement ; Some of the software is clunky

The addition of the flash drive makes this a far more tempting tool. But it's not for everyone

Samsung Q1

Even though there's no denying that Samsung's ingenious UMPC is amazingly small, it just might be too small.

Good speaker sound quality. Full-blown Windows XP operating system. Very portable. Resolution toggle button.

No keyboard or optical drive included. Not very good for writing extensively. PDA-like stylus. Slow processor and nonupgradable RAM. ; Watch the Samsung Q1 Video Review!

Samsung Q1 UMPC

Origami, the art of folding paper to make something delicate and new. At least that's what it meant until Microsoft turned it into their codename for the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC), where they've created a specification that allows manufacturers to turn...

Small, Windows XP

Poor battery life, bulky design

Therein lies the problem, Samsung has put together a machine that works reasonably, but not outstandingly. You have to ask yourself do I really want to spend this kind of money on a machine that only lasts a little over 1 hour, takes ages to boot all...

Samsung Q1 UMPC and Accessories Reviewed

If we gently ease Apple into an out-of-mind drawer then it becomes fair to say that the award for most anticipated hardware of the year goes to the UMPC, March's Origami campaign for which persuaded some, at least momentarily, that Microsoft was hip....

Most reviewers have spit the majority of their bile at the UMPCs lack of physical keyboard. Instead users have a variety of touchscreen-based methods. Aside from handwriting recognition, which can cope with a surprising degree of scrawl thanks to...

Samsung Q1

The chip in this card may sound familiar to those who read June's 7600 GT review. In terms of basic architecture, the 7600 GS and 7600 GT are identical, but there are a few subtle differences.

Kudos to Samsung for being the first to put an Origami device on sale. However, it has plenty to do to make the concept attractive enough to shift a significant number of units, and it certainly isn't going to do so at this price. There are also design...

Samsung Q1b UMPC Review

Brighthand's Antoine Wright brings us his thoughts after spending some time with Samsung's second try at an Ultra Mobile PC.

The Samsung Q1b has prices starting at $899 in some places, which can be a good buy if your needs are simply that of a computing Tablet device that can serve as a weekend/weeknight warrior and you need the robustness of Windows XP applications. It’s...
