Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 review: Lenovo ThinkPad SL400

Lenovo ThinkPad SL400

Low price point doesn't strip away too many traditional ThinkPad features; uses current Centrino 2 platform; antiglare display option with every penny (it costs 5,000 pennies); same great ThinkPad keyboard you've come to know and love; optional 9-cell...

Magnesium alloy roll cage absent; Draft N Wi-Fi not offered; optional 9-cell battery brings weight up to a relatively hefty 6 pounds.

Lenovo didn't shed too many features in rolling out its cheapest ThinkPad to date, the 14-inch SL400. Don't let the glossy lid fool you, there are a lot of familiar ThinkPad touches that make it a good bet for business users.

Lenovo ThinkPad SL400

With the Lenovo ThinkPad SL400, you'll pay less for all the outstanding features associated with the ThinkPad moniker.

Aggressively priced. ThinkPad keyboard and pointing stick. Excellent performance scores. Battery life is very good, even with discrete graphics. Environmentally sound. Superior wireless options. Excellent array of connectivity ports.

Frame is a little bulky.

New in Business. Right on time for the launch of the new Intel Mo

Robust case; Extensive connectivity options (HDMI); Optional Blue-Ray available; Comfortable input devices; Integrated UMTS module; Lenovo Care Tools; Extensive service and security solutions available; Good performance thanks to new Centrino 2...

Unusual design and styling; Sensitive display lid; Limited brightness and perspective stability in the display

Overall the Thinkpad SL series represents an interesting option for the price conscious business newcomer or even the private customer, since it does after all offer a lot of Thinkpad at a little price. This includes integrated broadband internet,...

Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 Review

The Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 is the latest addition to the ThinkPad family and promises to offer features and performance at a fraction of the cost of other ThinkPads. Lenovo's new IdeaPad line of notebooks might give consumers plenty of attractive...

Affordable price ; ThinkPad quality keyboard and trackpoint ; Good screen (matte option is great) ; Solid performance ; Nice pre-configured options ; Stays cool and quiet

Thick and boxy overall ; Weak speakers ; Glossy lid is a magnet for fingerprints and dirt ; Plastics are thin and weak in some places ; Weak hinge tension on display lid

The palm rest area is pretty plain: it has a matte black finish so it both feels and looks nice. It's very smooth and the touchpad is nicely textured with a responsive surface. Lenovo also decided to include the standard fingerprint reader for those...

Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 review

Usually, ThinkPads don't come cheap. You expect to pay dearly for the classy keyboard, rugged chassis, and whatever top-notch parts lie under the hood. That's not quite the case with Lenovo's ThinkPad SL400 series of laptops.

Overall, the Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 is a sound business laptop. Although it doesn't pack the firepower of some high-end machines, it gets the job done handily. Its combination of performance and value places it near the top of our charts.

Review: Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 Notebook

As mentioned in our review of the ThinkPad X200 , Lenovo took the Montevina refresh as a chance to make some major changes to their ThinkPad lineup. We saw new models added to the T, R, and X lines, but the other big piece of news was an entirely new...
