HP Split 13 x2

HP's 13-inch laptop/tablet hybrid is a strong concept, but the execution could be better.

Tablet portion is fairly light at 1.06kg ; Hybrid storage system is smart and useful ; Performs well in lightweight web and productivity tasks

Screen resolution could be a bit higher ; Limited battery life for the weight and dual-battery setup ; Struggles with fancy flash games and graphical tasks ; Tablet and dock are heavy together at 2.2kg

It’s a great concept and while the execution leaves something to be desired – particularly in weight and battery life – HP’s Split 13 x2 proves itself a useful piece of technology nonetheless. Great as a mobile presentation tool, or as a hybrid...

HP Split X2, coming July 16, is a thinner split-top Windows tablet-laptop

Improved design and processors aim to make HP's latest bump-up refinement a bit better than before.

A hybrid that doubles up on storage and battery

With an SSD in its detachable tablet and a HDD in the keyboard base, HP's Split x2 has fewer compromises than other hybrids.

HP Split x2 review

There's an expanse of laptop-tablet devices in recent months, to which HP adds its latest hand, the Split x2, to the ever-expanding stack. A stack that, with few exceptions, hasn't quite managed to wow us yet. It's all Microsoft's fault, really, given...

Decent keyboard and trackpad, ample battery life, screen viewing angles are good, sturdy build quality, fair price to power balance, SSD is swift, dual headphone jack

Massive as a tablet, top-heavy as a laptop, not comfortable for lap use, heavy in either configuration, screen should be higher resolution, fiddly tablet reconnection process, 13.3-inch tablet makes little sense, last-gen Intel

The HP Split x2 hasn’t split our verdict on where this product sits. Literally: it should sit on a desk. And that defies what the product is supposed to be about. For all its efforts at being a two-in-one device - well, physically at least, it succeeds...

HP Split x2 13-m210eg Convertible Review

Between worlds. The new HP Split x2 does not require a choice between a tablet and a notebook since the convertible combines both types of devices. Besides an IPS display, the convertible attracts attention with very good battery runtimes as well as...

High-contrast IPS panel, Very good battery runtimes, 2 hard drives (SSD + HDD), Decent input devices, Quiet operation, Gets hardly warm

Limited number of ports at the tablet, Heavy tablet (around 1000 grams)

All things considered, the HP Split x2 13-m210eg is a good device. HP offers a well-balanced package: A Core i5 processor provides sufficient performance, the IPS display is quite dark, but otherwise very convincing and the system partition on the SSD...

Two times the fun. The pricey but well-received Envy x2 has promp

Ivy Bridge and Haswell ULV CPU options with HD 4000/4400 graphics; Well-built with above-average rigidity; Primary mSATA SSD and optional secondary drive via docking station; Primary and secondary batteries for longer runtimes; RAM, mSATA and secondary...

Low brightness and low contrast; Difficult to use under sunlight; Not designed for outdoor use; Budget TN panel discourages portrait mode; Wobbly hinges; No higher resolution options; Back panels can be difficult to remove; not friendly for end-user...

Dual battery packs and dual storage drives are uncommon for tablet convertibles. RAM, mSATA and half-mini PCI-e upgrades can give the tablet longer legs.

HP Split 13 x2

Laptop/tablet ‘convertible' or ‘hybrid' devices are nothing new. ASUS pioneered the concept with its Android-based Transformer Pad, but HP has also had experience in the form factor over the last couple of years. The Split 13 x2 is the company's latest...
