Acer Aspire 5675WLHi

 

The 5675WLHi is a poor man's way to HD DVD early adoption, but it clearly lacks the polish of its competitors.

Good performance ; Highly functional design ; Numerous quick-launch buttons ; Swivelling 1.3-megapixel camera ; HD DVD drive

No HDMI output ; No TV tuner ; Not as good looking as the Sony and Toshiba competition ; 1280x800 display can't play HD DVD at full resolution ; Can't write to HD DVD discs

Overall, there are many things to like about Acer's attempt at an HD DVD notebook, but there's no getting past the relatively low resolution display and lack of a HDMI connector, which cannibalises the already questionable benefits of upgrading to HD...

Although it isn't the fastest laptop we've seen, the Acer's score was only three behind the record. And on one test in our benchmarking suite it stormed to a time that was some 20 percent faster than the WorldBench 5 control system. This is impressive...

This is a well-crafted piece of kit - the only real niggles are the graphics card and slightly dull screen. We'd also question the sense of putting the AC connector right next to the optical drive, as it restricts your ability to insert and eject...

Strange no one wants a notebook reviewed in January but there is a glut in March! Here I am looking at Intel Centrino Duo processor in an Acer Aspire 5672 notebook.

Acer's latest Aspire has the familiar Acer look we've come to expect in recent months but with a few nice tweaks.

The keyboard was one of the best and is very comfortable to type on -- each key press is well-weighted and crisp. The trackpad was also favourable, though the buttons click a little too loudly
