Huawei MediaPad X1

Hands-on at MWC 2014: Is it a 7-inch phone, or a 7-inch tablet?

The Huawei MediaPad X1 is a bit of an oddball. It's a 7-inch phone, and it only makes sense if you consider it as such given that rival 7-inch tablets are available for less than half the price. It seems like Samsung may already have some of the...

Huawei MediaPad X1 7.0 Tablet Review

Nexus rival. The Huawei MediaPad X1 7.0 is designed to vie with the Google Nexus 7, and with its in-house processor and high-resolution LTPS display, it seems to be an interesting competitor in the 7-inch segment. The LTE tablet leaves a good...

Great LTPS display, Good outdoor properties, Excellent battery life, Decent main camera, Good headset, LTE Cat. 4, Memory can be upgraded, Display and battery life are excellent

Lame memory, Poor speaker, Moderate system performance, Old Android, Huawei doesn't include a tool to open the card slots. If you don't have one, you have to resort to a clip or any other pointed object

Huawei's MediaPad X1 4G LTE Android slate is sleek but flawed

Huawei swears blind that this 7-inch Android device is a tablet, but it also has a 4G LTE SIM card slot so you can use it as a phone.

Its skinny metal body looks and feels luxurious, it has a bright and bold display, decent battery life and its camera can snap some good pictures too. Pop in a 4G LTE SIM card and you can use the tablet exactly as you would use a phone.

It's running on an outdated version of Android and Huawei's Emotion interface makes the tablet often rather sluggish and irritating to navigate.

Although the MediaPad X1's software is unquestionably clunky, it still has a lot going for it. If you're struggling to decide between buying a new phone or a new tablet, the X1's 4G LTE capabilities make it a fair compromise.

Huawei MediaPad X1 hands-on review

It's sleek and slender design make the X1 feel premium and that's good when you consider it has a price tag to match. Huawei tells us the MediaPad X1 will launch at around €399 in the next couple of months.

The MediaPad X1 is a really nicely designed 7in tablet from Huawei. However, we wish it was simple a tablet with a Nexus 7 rivalling price tag. Not a confusing 'phablet' with its phone functions.

Huawei MediaPad X1 review

HANDS ON REVIEW: Huawei's thinnest and lightest tablet is also a smartphone with the world's largest display? The MediaPad X1 blurs lines with its gorgeous looks and compact dimensions

We've been impressed by Huawei handsets before, but have ended up disappointed when they never make it on sale in the UK. Hopefully the MediaPad X1 will arrive on our shores, as it's one of the company's most exciting products to date. It will cost...
