Amazon Fire

Amazon has just released a slew of new Fire tablets. I wasn't impressed by the Fire HD 10. Nor the Fire HD 8 for that matter. The bog-standard Amazon Fire is a little different, however.

Terrific value ; Enough power to handle any Android game ; Decent battery life

Feels slow ; Basic build ; Low-resolution screen

Amazon Fire

The 7-inch Amazon Fire tablet doesn't offer high-end specs or the latest apps, but it's the best way to put a wealth of multimedia content at your fingertips for an almost unbelievable $50 price.

Fantastic price. Large content ecosystem. Good parental controls. Helpful technical support

Average performance. Somewhat grainy display. Lackluster camera

While most tablets in the $50 range aren't much more than glorified alarm clocks, the $49.99 Amazon Fire is a fully realized, functional slate with access to tons of content. It's good for reading books, watching movies, running apps, or just browsing...

Amazon Fire review

Amazon says the Fire is its best-selling tablet of all time . It's certainly the best tablet in its price range.

The Amazon Fire tablet definitely isn't overpriced. It runs a user-friendly operating system and houses a microSD card slot expandable up to 128GB. Amazon Prime members can access the bevy of free TV shows, movies and games included in the subscription.

The design feels cheap. Performance is slow if many apps are open in the background and when downloading. The display has a low resolution and touchscreen response can be sluggish. Gaming performance for large games is slow and the graphics can...

The Amazon Fire is a fine tablet for casual use, but it's not a good tablet, it's just good for the price.

Amazon Fire tablet review: Who needs Hudl when there's this for £50?

When Amazon revealed that it was to release a tablet in its Fire range that would only cost £50 we have to admit that we didn't expect much. Previous cheap-as-chips devices have never cut the mustard. In fact, they haven't even been in the vague...

Quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM belie its price point, robust build, Fire OS 5 is a massive step forward for Amazon

Design isn’t great with its super-wide bezel, non-HD screen that isn’t as bright as some, mono speaker offers flat audio response

For its price, the Amazon Fire is an amazing tablet. Yes, there are plenty of tablets out there that are much better in almost every way, including Amazon's own Fire HD range, but the Fire is great to watch streaming video on. It's capable of playing...

Amazon Fire tablet review: The Alexa tablet now for only £35

The Amazon Fire tablet has been upgraded for 2017 with Alexa support, and it's a real bargain

Super cheap ; A great choice for kids ; Easy to carry around

Sluggish performance

The new Fire makes sense for anyone looking for a first tablet, though, or a cheap second device for travel, university, the kitchen or even as a dedicated Amazon Alexa device with a screen, it's a fantastic device that I'd recommend. For other tablet...

Amazon Fire (2015) review - the best budget tablet you can buy

Amazon is aggressively pushing down the price of its tablets in order to undercut Android rivals. Here's our Amazon Fire review, which explains why the tablet is such a bargain at just £49.

It's certainly not perfect, and the lack of Google apps will still put some people off, but the Fire is excellent value at under £50. The latest Fire OS is so Android-like that it's easy to use, and the Fire for Kids app makes it possible to limit what...

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 2015 review: The Goldilocks e-reader?

The third-generation Paperwhite now sports the Kindle Voyage's high-resolution display, but otherwise looks and costs the same as the previous model.

Amazon has improved on last year's excellent Paperwhite e-reader with the sharper, higher resolution screen found in the step-up Kindle Voyage. A smattering of new features enhance Amazon's already best-in-class content ecosystem. The built-in light...

The HD screen is an upgrade but doesn't make a huge difference; an AC adapter isn't included (just a Micro-USB cable for charging). The ad-free version costs $20 more.

The Kindle Paperwhite gets an HD screen, and while it isn't as big an upgrade as you'd think, it's a welcome addition, incrementally enhancing the Kindle reading experience.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2015) Review: In Depth

New Amazon Kindle Paperwhite review: We get stuck into our favourite ebooks on Amazon's refreshed Kindle Paperwhite ereader, revamped for 2015 with a sexy new...

Sharp, bright screen ; Light and compact ; Great online store

Battery life impacted ; Few reasons to upgrade

Amazon’s new Paperwhite has been updated with a gloriously sharp screen, but the trade-off is reduced battery life compared with last year’s model. It’s still a great ereader and the crisp visuals make it ideal for comic book fans, but original owners...
