The iPhone 8 Plus' updates don't warrant a full number bump, but they're welcome improvements that make it another great iPhone.

Stellar performance ; Great camera, fun Portrait Mode features ; Wireless charging works well ; Great display ; Daylong battery

Expensive ; Boring, dated front design ; No headphone jack

The iPhone 8 Plus should really be called the iPhone 7S Plus. Its updates don’t warrant a full number bump, but they’re welcome improvements that make the 8 Plus another great iPhone.

Newer iPhones are getting much too pricey, but the 8 Plus is a cheaper yet still-powerful Apple handset to pick instead.

A solid iPhone, but a clear evolution from previous Plus models. Compared to the iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone 11 Pro Max it's unexciting, but it offers the traditional home button and a far better experience over the smaller iPhone 8.

iPhone X power in a traditional body

 

It's just as fast as the iPhone X, has a longer battery life, and, well, it still has the home button. The iPhone 8 Plus is still a great pick for anyone not ready for Face ID, but expect an update in the next few months.

Fantastic dual-lens camera shoots better than ever with improved portrait mode. Adds wireless charging. Fast speed. Starts at 64GB. Best battery life in the current iPhone line. Still has a home button if that's important to you.

Dated look. Lacks some of the extra iPhone X camera features. Large body makes it hard to hold.

The iPhone 8 Plus is a great phone with a spectacular camera that offers a lot of what iPhone X has under the hood, but Apple will no doubt release an upgrade later this year.

Apple iPhone 8 Plus

 

The iPhone 8 Plus may promise better augmented reality experiences than its smaller counterpart thanks to its dual cameras, making it the one you should buy.

Super-fast processor. Dual cameras. Wireless charging.

Not the fastest LTE connections. Still a relatively low-res screen with a big bezel for the price.

The iPhone 8 Plus is ready for the future, which makes it our favorite iPhone so far—but then again, we haven't tested the iPhone X yet.
